A House with a Musical Past
The musical connection
Olivia Newton-John was engaged to Bruce Welch, a central member of The Shadows alongside Hank Marvin. Welch and John Farrar were involved in producing her early recordings, including their co-production of her 1971 recording of ‘If Not for You’. Hank Marvin, Bruce Welch and John Farrar also worked together as Marvin, Welch & Farrar.
These documented relationships establish the genuine musical connection. They do not independently establish how or why Olivia visited Ploversfield.
Ploversfield’s recollections
Ploversfield’s own house history recalls connections with people from the entertainment world during the period when the Eden family owned the house.
That history, including recollections from a former member of staff from Hemyock, records Olivia Newton-John as a visitor. The same recollections include visits by Cliff Richard and frequent parties at Ploversfield. These are Ploversfield’s oral history and recollections, rather than independently documented public accounts; they do not establish that Olivia and Cliff Richard visited together.
A surviving reminder
The indoor swimming-pool area retains an unusual reminder of this entertaining period: a bespoke pool cover enabled the area to be converted for use as a dance floor, and the house retains the mechanism associated with a glitter ball.
These surviving features form part of Ploversfield’s house history. They do not establish the identity of individual party guests.
Your Own Space at Ploversfield
Ploversfield is our family home, with guest accommodation in its own separate part of the house, giving guests considerable privacy and space in which to relax.
Guests have their own comfortable lounge and access to a private courtyard with a table and chairs. These guest areas are separate from the owners’ private living areas.
The indoor swimming pool and sauna are normally available during the warmer months. The pool is seasonally heated, and heating and availability vary according to the time of year.

A generous continental buffet breakfast is included in your room rate.
A freshly cooked traditional English breakfast is available for £10 per person. Scrambled eggs with smoked salmon and toast are also available as an alternative.
