Bed and Breakfast in Hemyock, Devon
Ploversfield is our family home in the village of Hemyock, surrounded by the countryside of the Blackdown Hills on the Devon–Somerset border. We offer just three individually named double rooms, providing a more personal and peaceful alternative to a large hotel.
The guest accommodation forms its own private part of the house, with a guest lounge and private courtyard, while secure gated parking is available within the property.
Meet Poppy
Ploversfield is our family home as well as a Bed & Breakfast, and Poppy, our Miniature Schnauzer, is very much part of the household. Some of our returning guests will already know her — and she has even earned a few mentions in our guest reviews.
Poppy lives with us in the private part of the house and is not permitted in the guest bedrooms.
Our Three Rooms
Each of our three double rooms has one king-size bed, a private en-suite bathroom and accommodation for a maximum of two adults. Each room has its own character and connection with the story of Ploversfield.
Hank Marvin Room
A comfortable double room with a king-size bed and private en-suite, with views towards the adjoining Devon countryside.
Sir Michael Stear Room
A comfortable and well-appointed double room with a king-size bed and private en-suite, overlooking Ploversfield’s garden, lawn and magnificent old oak tree.

A comfortable double room with a king-size bed and private en-suite, with views across the gardens and surrounding Devon countryside.
Breakfast at Ploversfield
A generous continental buffet breakfast is included in your room rate. We use locally produced ingredients wherever practical and prefer suitable local produce to unnecessarily imported alternatives. Some of our preserves are homemade.
For guests who would like a cooked breakfast, a freshly prepared Traditional English Breakfast is available for £10 per person, with scrambled eggs, smoked salmon and toast available as an alternative.
Space to Relax
Guests have their own lounge with books, television and log burner, together with a private courtyard for sitting outside when the weather allows. The guest accommodation is separate from the owners’ own living area while remaining part of our family home.
Secure gated parking is available within the property.

Indoor Pool & Sauna
Ploversfield has an indoor swimming pool and sauna shared with the owners. The pool is seasonally heated and is normally available during the warmer months.
Pool use is subject to our pool safety conditions.
A House with a Story
Ploversfield has been part of life in Hemyock for generations. Construction began in 1948 on land recorded in the original plans as Bean Close, and the house was built by Dr Logan, who established his home and village surgery here.
Many local residents still remember coming to Ploversfield when it was the surgery. Dr Logan’s connection with Hemyock also survives elsewhere in the village, including Logan Way and a tree planted in his name in the churchyard.
The connection has continued across generations. We have had the pleasure of meeting both of Dr Logan’s daughters, who returned to Ploversfield and remembered living here as schoolgirls and the rooms that had once been their own.
Ploversfield has gathered many other stories since then, some of which are reflected in the names and histories of our three guest rooms.

We normally prefer a minimum stay of two nights, although one-night stays may sometimes be available by arrangement, particularly for local weddings and family visits.
